If you are looking for an inexpensive summer vacation then you may want to plan an outdoor vacation. You save money on lodging and nature provides you with all the adventures and activities that you can wish for. Have a great summer this year by planning an inexpensive outdoor summer vacation near Gadsden, Alabama. Step 1: Learn About Gadsden, Alabama Gadsden proper has a small population of about 37,405 people, however, when you look at the entire Gadsden Metropolitan Area you will find a local population of about 166m313 people. When you are planning your outdoor vacation make sure that you prepare for a summer climate that is both hot and humid. You should expect rain and temperatures that consistently exceed 85 degrees. While visiting this metro area make sure that you plan to visit James D. Martin Wildlife Park, Lookout Mountain, and Noccalula Falls Park. Step 2: Plan Where to Stay Since you are trying to minimize your vacation expenses you will want to avoid staying in hotels. Instead make plans to pitch your tent at one of the local campgrounds. The closest campground to Gadsden is the Noccalula Falls Campground. It is only 2 miles away from the city. Other campgrounds located within 20 miles of Gadsden include: Barclay RV Parking, Willow Point Campground, Horse Pens 40 Campground, Leesburg Resorts, Inc., and Pine Cone Marina. Step 3: Select Your Adventures Another great way to save money is to plan activities that have low or no costs associated with them. One of the most inexpensive outdoor adventures that you can have is a hiking adventure. In most cases the only cost for these activities will be the cost of gas to get to the trailhead and back. However, if you bring your bike with you, you may be able to bike to the trailhead from your campsite. The closest trail system to Gadsden is the Odum Trail. It is located 38 miles from the city. If you own your own raft then whitewater rafting adventures are virtually free. Again the only cost you will have is the gas to get your party and equipment to the river and back to the campground. If you are accessing a river via a state park, then there may be a nominal fee for park entry as well. One of the closest whitewater routes to Gadsden is located 2 miles away on the Black River. You will put your raft in at the Noccalula Park Campground and float 1.5 miles to Tuscaloosa Avenue. This run provides you with a variety of river challenge levels, going from class II to V+. If you are looking for a longer river run then you will want to travel 21 miles to Short Creek. Here you will find a class III-IV river run that travels 5.4 miles from Highway 68 to Guntersville Lake. Lake adventures are another great inexpensive outdoor adventure that you can plan. The costs associated with this adventure will be based on what you want to do at the lake. If you have your own boat then you will need to pay for gas, oil, and dock fees (if applicable). If you don't have a boat and you want to go boating then your costs will also include the boat rental fee. The other costs that you will need to plan for will include park entry fees, licensing, and safety equipment. These fees will allow you to have a full day of water adventures including swimming, snorkeling, skiing, jet skiing, fishing, and relaxing. |
