About 'restaurants in tuscaloosa'|Coming to Tuscaloosa
The biggest city in the South may not be known nationwide for the BBQ it serves, but Atlanta offers many locally and regionally known joints, as I like to call them, that satisfy BBQ fanatics inside and outside the perimeter. What I find when I venture across Atlanta and look at BBQ are fairly inexpensive, but consistently good BBQ pork, beef, chicken and ribs. Many are locally owned or small chains that offer good service and a great choice of BBQ. By having locations in Cobb County, Douglasville, and Canton, there is a Williamson Bros. BBQ somewhere near you. This is BBQ southern styled. Two brothers from Alabama who make some mean sauces. The service is great, and the setting makes you feel like you are sitting in an old Southern house. Williamson Bros' menu has sandwiches and platters galore. Try the ribs or the pork, you can add 2 sides and you will leave full. The Brunswick stew is excellent, and if you like yummy okra this is the place for you. You can take pounds of BBQ home for your Summer or Super Bowl parties, and don't forget the homemade pies. Williamson Bros. has a children's menu for the little ones and it's open daily. Another BBQ with a Alabama twist is of course Dreamland BBQ. Straight out of Tuscaloosa, AL. if you live on the Northside, there is a Dreamland in Roswell and in Peachtree Corners. I frequent the Roswell location, right on Roswell Road. Dreamland's motto is "Ain't nothing like 'em nowhere", and I have to agree. Dreamland has been serving up ribs and BBQ for over 50 years, so they know what they are doing. The setting is casual, and the homemade banana pudding for dessert is a must have. But don't forget about the BBQ thinking of that pudding. I love the sausage, and the ribs fall off the bone. The drinks are cold, and all the side dishes are fresh. Oh, and did I mention the banana pudding? No talk of BBQ in Atlanta is complete unless you mention Fat Matt's Rib Shack. I don't know if it's the food, the experienced staff, or the live blues that is played nightly, but I love this place. Of course the food is important. The chopped pork is the sandwich of choice. For chicken, you can order a 1/2 or 1/4 bird. if you can eat a full slab of ribs, you are better than me. The atmosphere is casual, and you may have a wait a few minutes, but it's worth the wait. Pick up a souvenir t-shirt on your way out. You'll want to remember this BBQ experience. Fat Matt's is open until 11:30 Sun-Thur and until 12:30 Fri and Sat. Right near the campus of Georgia Tech, you'll find a family owned little BBQ establishment that is as good as it gets. Ribs N Blues BBQ is known for its ribs and its pork and chicken. The menu includes ribs and combo meals. The sides are tasty, especially the "rum" baked beans. it's nothing fancy, but the restaurant is bright and clean on the inside. There are TV's to watch the big games, and cold beer for sale as well. Ribs N blues is open Mon-Sat until 9 each night. Give it a try. Those are four of my favorites. There are plenty more to try as well. While many fans of Southern BBQ may not think of Atlanta as a BBQ hotbed, I think of it as "BBQ Hog Heaven" |
