    The               biggest               city               in               the               South               may               not               be               known               nationwide               for               the               BBQ               it               serves,               but               Atlanta               offers               many               locally               and               regionally               known               joints,               as               I               like               to               call               them,               that               satisfy               BBQ               fanatics               inside               and               outside               the               perimeter.

    What               I               find               when               I               venture               across               Atlanta               and               look               at               BBQ               are               fairly               inexpensive,               but               consistently               good               BBQ               pork,               beef,               chicken               and               ribs.

    Many               are               locally               owned               or               small               chains               that               offer               good               service               and               a               great               choice               of               BBQ.

    By               having               locations               in               Cobb               County,               Douglasville,and               Canton,               there               is               a               Williamson               Bros.

    BBQ               somewhere               near               you.

    This               is               BBQ               southern               styled.

    Two               brothers               from               Alabama               who               make               some               mean               sauces.

    The               service               is               great,               and               the               setting               makes               you               feel               like               you               are               sitting               in               an               old               Southern               house.

    Williamson               Bros'               menu               has               sandwiches               and               platters               galore.

    Try               the               ribs               or               the               pork,               you               can               add               2               sides               and               you               will               leave               full.

    The               Brunswick               stew               is               excellent,               and               if               you               like               yummy               okra               this               is               the               place               for               you.

    You               can               take               pounds               of               BBQ               home               for               your               Summer               or               Super               Bowl               parties,               and               don't               forget               the               homemade               pies.

    Williamson               Bros.

    has               a               children's               menu               for               the               little               ones               and               it's               open               daily.
                   Another               BBQ               with               a               Alabama               twist               is               of               course               Dreamland               BBQ.

    Straight               out               of               Tuscaloosa,               AL.

    if               you               live               on               the               Northside,               there               is               a               Dreamland               in               Roswell               and               in               Peachtree               Corners.

    I               frequent               the               Roswell               location,               right               on               Roswell               Road.

    Dreamland's               motto               is               "Ain't               nothing               like               'em               nowhere",               and               I               have               to               agree.

    Dreamland               has               been               serving               up               ribs               and               BBQ               for               over               50               years,               so               they               know               what               they               are               doing.

    The               setting               is               casual,               and               the               homemade               banana               pudding               for               dessert               is               a               must               have.

    But               don't               forget               about               the               BBQ               thinking               of               that               pudding.

    I               love               the               sausage,               and               the               ribs               fall               off               the               bone.

    The               drinks               are               cold,               and               all               the               side               dishes               are               fresh.

    Oh,               and               did               I               mention               the               banana               pudding?
                   No               talk               of               BBQ               in               Atlanta               is               complete               unless               you               mention               Fat               Matt's               Rib               Shack.

    I               don't               know               if               it's               the               food,               the               experienced               staff,               or               the               live               blues               that               is               played               nightly,               but               I               love               this               place.

    Of               course               the               food               is               important.

    The               chopped               pork               is               the               sandwich               of               choice.

    For               chicken,               you               can               order               a               1/2               or               1/4               bird.

    if               you               can               eat               a               full               slab               of               ribs,               you               are               better               than               me.

    The               atmosphere               is               casual,               and               you               may               have               a               wait               a               few               minutes,               but               it's               worth               the               wait.

    Pick               up               a               souvenir               t-shirt               on               your               way               out.

    You'll               want               to               remember               this               BBQ               experience.

    Fat               Matt's               is               open               until               11:30               Sun-Thur               and               until               12:30               Fri               and               Sat.
                   Right               near               the               campus               of               Georgia               Tech,               you'll               find               a               family               owned               little               BBQ               establishment               that               is               as               good               as               it               gets.

    Ribs               N               Blues               BBQ               is               known               for               its               ribs               and               its               pork               and               chicken.

    The               menu               includes               ribs               and               combo               meals.

    The               sides               are               tasty,               especially               the               "rum"               baked               beans.

    it's               nothing               fancy,               but               the               restaurant               is               bright               and               clean               on               the               inside.

    There               are               TV's               to               watch               the               big               games,               and               cold               beer               for               sale               as               well.

    Ribs               N               blues               is               open               Mon-Sat               until               9               each               night.

    Give               it               a               try.
                   Those               are               four               of               my               favorites.

    There               are               plenty               more               to               try               as               well.

    While               many               fans               of               Southern               BBQ               may               not               think               of               Atlanta               as               a               BBQ               hotbed,               I               think               of               it               as               "BBQ               Hog               Heaven"

    Sunset               Travel               Park,               located               at               5001               JVC               Road,               Cottondale,               Alabama,               is               a               convenient               place               to               park               your               RV               if               you               are               in               this               area               for               fun               or               for               work,               such               as               at               the               Tuscaloosa               Refinery.

    This               RV               park               has               all               the               amenities               that               RVers               have               come               to               expect               when               they               pull               into               a               place               to               put               down               their               temporary               roots               as               well               as               easy               access               to               and               from               I-20               and               is               only               a               little               over               8               miles               away               from               the               Tuscaloosa               Refinery.

    The               RV               sites               at               Sunset               Travel               Park,               of               which               there               are               170,               are               full               hook               up               sites               with               either               30               or               50               amp               electric               service.

    They               also               have               wireless               internet               and               cable               television               hookups.

    84               of               these               170               sites               are               pull               thru               sites               and               all               of               the               sites               will               accommodate               a               big               rig               as               they               are               long               with               plenty               of               room,               even               for               extra               automobiles.

    These               RV               sites               are               gravel               with               concrete               pads,               making               them               even               more               inviting               to               the               RVer               who               may               choose               to               stay               here.
                   Pets               are               allowed               on               the               park               property               but               their               owners               should               be               considerate               of               other               people               in               the               park               and               clean               up               after               them.

    Also,               there               is               a               laundry               facility               and               nice,               clean               showers               available               for               use               by               guests.

    There               are               no               discount               rates               at               this               RV               park,               but               those               who               are               considering               staying               here               for               an               extended               period               of               time               will               be               welcome.
                   Not               only               is               Sunset               Travel               Park               within               easy               driving               range               to               Tuscaloosa               Refinery,               it               is               also               nearly               2               miles               from               Winn               Dixie,               3               miles               to               Walmart               or               Target               and               Wachovia               Bank.

    Burger               King               is               only               .2               of               a               mile               away               and               McDonald's               is               about               a               mile               and               a               half               away.

    There               is               a               shopping               mall               about               3               miles               away               and               a               walk-in               medical               clinic               almost               5               miles               away.
                   Sunset               Travel               Park               does               have               the               basic               amenities               that               any               RVer               would               need               when               staying               in               their               RV               for               either               work               or               play.

    These               amenities               plus               the               location               of               the               park               in               relationship               to               other               places               that               the               guests               staying               here               might               be               interested               in               make               this               a               good               place               to               park               a               RV               when               visiting               here.

    COMMENTARY               |               Destructive               tornadoes               in               Alabama               have               drawn               the               Federal               Emergency               Management               Agency               (FEMA)               to               the               state.

    131               people               are               dead               and               the               death               toll               is               sure               to               rise               after               a               series               of               violent               twisters               ripped               through               the               state               and               left               wreckage               in               16               counties.

    The               city               of               Tuscaloosa               alone               suffered               millions               of               dollars               in               damage.

    Nearly               1               million               people               remain               without               power               as               state               officials               and               national               guard               troops               began               cleaning               up               the               wreckage.

    Given               how               FEMA               handled               disaster               relief               efforts               in               New               Orleans               during               the               aftermath               of               Hurricane               Katrina,               the               agency               is               not               a               welcome               presence               to               most               people               in               this               region.

    FEMA               earned               a               reputation               for               being               inept               and               inefficient               during               crisis               management,               and               the               agency               will               need               to               work               overtime               this               time               around               to               repair               its               image.
                   There               are               three               lessons               FEMA               can               take               from               how               it               handled               Hurricane               Katrina               as               it               commences               efforts               to               aid               Alabama               residents:
                   Allow               private               organizations               to               deliver               supplies
                   One               of               the               biggest               failures               for               FEMA               during               its               disaster               response               in               New               Orleans               was               the               agency's               unwillingness               to               allow               aid               to               flow               in               from               businesses               and               charities.

    A               state-of-the-art               mobile               hospital               sent               from               the               University               of               North               Carolina               was               turned               away.

    FEMA               did               not               allow               the               American               Red               Cross               to               deliver               food.

    Wal-Mart               supply               trucks               were               also               turned               back               by               the               agency.
                   Simply               relying               on               its               own               staff               and               resources               left               FEMA               greatly               overextended               and               unable               to               adequately               help               people               in               need.

    There               was               unnecessary               suffering,               and               death               in               some               cases,               because               the               agency               stubbornly               refused               assistance               from               any               outside               sources.
                   Make               better               use               of               existing               resources
                   One               of               the               most               infamous               episodes               in               the               aftermath               of               Hurricane               Katrina               was               symbolized               by               the               145,000               trailers               FEMA               brought               into               Louisiana               to               house               the               hundreds               of               thousands               of               victims               who               had               been               displaced               by               the               hurricane.

    The               problem               was               that               an               estimated               42               percent               of               those               trailers               emitted               toxic               levels               of               formaldehyde.

    Thousands               of               people               were               forced               to               live               in               those               trailers               anyway.

    Thousands               more               remained               homeless               after               the               hurricane.
                   Housing               was               not               the               only               issue.

    FEMA               did               not               utilize               the               skills               of               firefighters               and               doctors               who               volunteered               to               help               victims               of               the               disaster.

    Firefighters               were               restricted               to               handing               out               flyers               and               doctors               were               limited               in               who               they               were               allowed               to               treat.
                   Act               quickly:
                   FEMA               officials               waited               too               long               to               respond               to               the               storm               in               New               Orleans,               which               helped               fuel               the               devastating               conditions               there.

    Basic               necessities               like               food,               water               and               blankets               were               not               immediately               available               to               victims               of               Hurricane               Katrina.

    Sick               and               injured               people               were               not               immediately               rescued               either,               as               the               agency               needlessly               waited               to               assess               the               situation               before               sending               in               rescue               vehicles               and               staff               to               take               action.

    The               prolonged               response               helped               add               dozens               of               lives               to               the               storm's               final               death               toll.
                   Response               time               has               been               quicker               since               Hurricane               Katrina.

    But               one               thing               FEMA               can't               afford               to               do               in               Alabama               is               not               get               on               the               ground               quickly               and               efficiently.

    Doing               so               will               not               just               be               a               good               public               relations               move,               but               it               could               be               a               matter               of               life               and               death               for               some               people               affected               by               the               tornadoes.
